Biography / Life Sketch : He started his career as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Roorkee in 1969 and became the Reader in 1973. He was in Iraq for two years where he was Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of Mosul.

Dr. Jain was Vice Chancellor, Mody Institute of Technology & Science (Deemed University), Lakshmangarh, Sikar (Rajasthan) January 3, 2005 to August 4, 2007.He has been Pro Vice Chancellor, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar.

He held the position of the Vice Chancellor Shiksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University from March 2008 to February 2011 .He has been The Advisor to the Chancellor, Shrda University, Greater Noida from March 2011 to May 2013. Professor Jain is currently the Pro Chancellor and Vice Chancellor of IMS Unison University, Dehradun.

Having been in the teaching profession for 38 years, Dr. Jain has also held managerial and administrative posts for over twenty years at various senior levels. His administrative acumen was brought to light when he was appointed as the Director of Alternate Hydro-Energy Centre in 1988, which post he held for three years. The job was a challenging one as he had to lead a 60 strong team of multidisciplinary engineers and scientists, involved in hydro projects on a turn-key basis.

As Founder-Director of the Science & Technology Park, he was responsible for promoting new entrepreneurs and also instrumental in diversification of existing industries. He also discharged the duties as the Founder- General Secretary of the Indian STEP Association.

He has served on the Executive Committee of Indian Standards on Small Hydro Power House, Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi. His interaction with industrialists has enabled him to efficiently co-ordinate industrial consultancy and sponsored research activities of both the erstwhile Roorkee University and STEP.

He is a fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India) and is a co-opted member of the Executive Committee of the Rajasthan State centre of the Institution as an outstanding engineering personality.

For nearly two and a half decades, (which is a record by itself), he has been the Professor-in-charge of Placement, Training and Industrial Liaison. It is creditable that the IIT Roorkee, held the first position with regard to the placement activities much ahead of all other IITs during his tenure as Professor in-charge of Placement, which speaks for itself.

He has successfully developed and executed many innovative programmes in entrepreneurship development, renewable energy sources and other disciplines of engineering and science. He has designed and organized Mass Employment Generation Programme through Science & Technology (MEGSAT) and training of multi-purpose mechanics of rural population.

His organizational skills have found him at the helm of affairs at several national workshops/seminars and conferences. He has been the National Co-coordinator of a sub-committee of the National Programme of HRD in IT, on Promoting Institute-Industry-Interface. His interest in disseminating information and knowledge has made him the Editor of several news magazines, bulletins, newsletters and reports.

As a Vice Chancellor, MITS, Lakshmangarh, he was academic and administrative head of the Institute which is a deemed University under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Under his leadership MITS made all-round progress specially in terms of placement of its students in reputed companies and improved academic standards. He was also Director, Mody Institute of Education & Research which consisted Mody School, a public school accredited to CBSE Board. There was considerable expansion of infrastructural facilities in both the institute during his tenure.
As a person, Dr. Jain is versatile, unassuming and friendly. Happily married to Saroj, a very affectionate home-maker, the two of them can rightfully be proud of their sons, a doctor, and a Senior Manager Reliance Retail Limited, Mumbai, and a daughter who is a software engineer.
