Central university of Tamil Nadu issues notice to students for discussing Article 370

NEW DELHI. discussion by a group of students on the Central government's decision to abrogate Article 370 has drawn the ire of the Central University of Tamil Nadu located in Thiruvarur. The university has issued a memorandum to a group of 30 students including five of them from Jammu and Kashmir seeking explanation on a meeting held by them in campus on August 7th.

The memorandum dated August 9th stated that the students breached the conduct of rules and established procedures by assembling for a discussion on Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. The students are given three days time to respond to the memorandum.

On August 7th the university had issued a circular warning stern action against those who "congregate and raise slogans in the name of freedom of speech inside the university campus."

Sources in the student community said they held discussion on article 370 under the forum "independent speakers." The forum meets every week to discuss topics of importance to create greater awareness among the student community.

A day later, there were posters and notices inside the university premises criticising the central government's move to scrap Article 370. However, the students denied any role in the posters that were pasted in the university and said they only held discussions on the issue.(COURTSY INDIA TODAY)(UPDATED ON AUGUST 13TH, 2019)
