Self Development Programme held at PU

CHANDIGARYH. The Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies (ICSVS), Panjab University in collaboration with U-Connect Initiative of Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) has launched its 6th edition of 12 weeks – ‘Self Development Programme’ (SDP) here today, which is in collaboration with University Institute of applied management studies, P.U.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU encouraged the students to get maximum benefits from this program and also urged that such self development programmes be organised in other departments and the University hostels also.

Prof. O.P. Katare, gave an overview of the Certificate course in SDP which is an intiative of heartfullness institute under the umbrella of Shri Ram Chandra mission. He focused on the importance of time management, emotional intelligence and introspection which are the hallmark of this course.

Prof. Nandita Singh, Coordinator of ICSVS informed that this course is different from the academic courses as here the seeker of knowledge has to go inwards and be in harmony with his/her inner self. This requires persistent practice of introspection and meditation along with lessons which inspire the disciple to continue this process. That is the reason the course is spread over 12-15 weeks with once a week interaction.

Dr. Monika Aggrawal informed that more than 100 students have enrolled for this course from the institute of UIAMS.

Prof. Upasana Joshi, the Chairperson of UIAMS and Co-Coordinator of SDP is behind inspiring her students. 48 students from the previous course were felicitated and Disha for Success, head Ms. Indu Aggarwal announced prizes from her foundation for the outstanding students. Prof. Madhurima, Prof. Latika Sharma, Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kang participated in the program.

The objectives of the course include creating value based personality, character formation, building high value atmosphere, enhancing employability potential and inculcating spirit of self respect. The curriculum of the course also includes discussion on values, philosophy of Yoga, study of religion, art of meditation and tips for self management. The course leads a practitioner from theory to practice for sustained self development and also help in introspection, self awareness and self management. Earlier to this we have had five courses in collaboration with other departments like UBS, UILS, zoology, pharmacy and Education. These courses have been attended by faculty members, research scholars and students from various departments.
